Today is a huge day for us: we’re releasing all our templates to Open Source.
How It All Began (2013)
Everything started almost 12 years ago, back in 2013, when I was still in university. I spent six months building my very first Bootstrap template with a fancy transparent design and gradient background.

This transparent look was an innovation at the time, and it turned out to be a commercial success – one of the first of its kind. I was a broke student who took a loan from my mom (she wasnāt too thrilled at the time) and put everything into making this template. I ended up selling 200-300 copies per month, which felt like achieving the passive income dream. After all, thatās what started it all.
But once people started buying the template, many of them asked, “Could you adapt this for our project? Could you build something else on top of it?” Those inbound requests led me to launch an official company: Flatlogic. We went from “just me writing code” to building custom software for clients. Some of the earliest Flatlogic employees even launched their own companies later, inspired by how we turned a single template into a full software development business – companies like Akveo, CreativeIT, Epicmax, and a few others.
We didnāt stop there. We released more products, like the Sing App Angular template, and eventually moved to our own marketplace – check out my old blog post about that journey: From selling admin templates on a marketplace to creating our own platform. A story of Flatlogic.
20,000+ Licenses Sold
Over the years, we sold more than 20,000 licenses. Lots of awesome products sprang up using our code as a foundation. Some of those projects generate serious revenue for their creators, which has always been the most rewarding part – seeing how people build on top of our work. Companies like Optelos and others built entire products starting from our templates, and weāve documented some of these case studies on our website.
We also open-sourced some of our work along the way, like React Native Starter and React Material Admin. These projects found their own communities, and we saw firsthand how valuable open source can be – not just for visibility, but for genuine, real-world impact.
Flatlogic AI Software Engineer
Around that time, we realized that building a new codebase, even based on our templates, every time was inefficient. We repeated a lot of common features like CRUD, authentication, authorization, data sorting, filtering, AI-widgets, REST API, email verification, and many other features common for SAAS and <data> management apps. So we created Flatlogic Generator, an automated AI Web App generator that crafts a tailored codebase with front-end, back-end, and databases, based on user input with all of the standard features included. With the rise of large language models, we evolved it into what we half-jokingly call ātemplate++ā as “c++” is for “c” š Basically, you enter what you need, and the generator produces an advanced Full-Stack Web App for you – customized, flexible, production-ready, and deployed, with a full source code ownership (crucial for startups who need to own their core asset – their software), and ability to customize either with AI or classical manual coding.
This shift in focus to the Generator (and now to our bigger vision – Flatlogic AI Software Engineer) means we have fewer resources to maintain dozens of manually updated templates. So we decided to open-source the entire library as a final salute to where we started. It feels right to sunset the old templates after a decade, proud that we sold up to 20,000 licenses and helped many users get a head start on their projects.
The next chapter is all about pushing our AI Software Engineer and AI capabilities further. But we didnāt want to abandon these templates – so weāre giving them to the community to use, share, and build on.
Have fun, and let us know what you create!
